Key Points to Know For Your Swimming Pool Maintenance

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Many people dream of having a swimming pool in their backyard so that they can enjoy, sitting beside their pool with chilled beer in hands, especially in the hot summer days of Hemet, California. But installing a pool is just half the job done. Maintaining the pool is the other half. It is very important that when you get your swimming pool installed, you also maintain it properly. If you don’t it might get damaged or it might become dangerous for the people who use it. Pool maintenance is not all that hard; you just need to know a few things so that you can properly maintain your pool.

Pool Cleaning:

Of course, the most important and key point in Swimming Pool Maintenance is pool cleaning. Most of the pools have sand filters that automatically circulate water in the pool. These sand filters are used to remove all the impurities in the water. You should regularly clean these filters. To clean the filter and the pool water, you should first get all the large particles out of the pool with the help of a net or something similar. Your filter system should take care of the rest of the cleaning. It will automatically drain all the impure water, pass it through the filter, clean it, and then fill it back. You should keep the filtering system on for almost 6-8 hours a day. If you feel that your filters are not cleaning as effectively as they should be then you will need to do a much deeper cleaning.

In the days when pool is used a lot, you should vacuum and brush the pool at least once in a week. Clean the walls of the pool properly so that all the germs are removed. Also it’s good to reverse the filtering system so that if there is anything stuck in the filters, it blows out. After all this, test the water, if you notice a considerable change in the water then your cleaning is done properly.

Adjustment in the Chemical Levels:

After you have cleaned your pool properly, you should check the chemical levels and the PH of the water in the pool. Not a lot of people pay much attention to the fact that the chemical levels and the PH of their backyard pools should be in a balance. It’s not difficult to test the chemical levels of your pool. Just get a water test kit from the market and you’ll be fine. After testing the water, you will have a clear idea as to what should be the chemical levels in the pool. Your pool will be safer for use.

Solving Pool Problems:

If you clean your pool properly and regularly that it’s almost certain that you won’t be facing a lot of problems regarding your pool maintenance. But if you are facing problems like swimmers becoming ill, algae, cloudy water, chlorine burn and staining then it is advised that you don’t use the pool until you get to the bottom of the problem and fix it. Illness from the pool is a serious issue. Do not allow people who are ill to use the pool for the safety of others.

Should I Or Shouldn’t I? Concrete Fish Ponds

When you decide to build a fish pond in your backyard, one of the options that will probably come to mind for construction materials is concrete. After all, we’re used to swimming pools and wading pools being made of concrete, so why not a concrete fish pond? In theory it may seem like a good idea, but is the expense of pouring a concrete pond really necessary? What are other options? Is the best environment for fish a concrete pond? These are all good questions that need to be answered prior to making any decisions about building a water garden.

Experts will tell you that concrete should only be used for large ponds or in formal settings. For a small pool in your yard, there are other options, such as plastic pond liners, that will be less expensive and suffice just as well. As a warning, never consider turning your old swimming pool into a fish pond. It is far too deep for you to be able to keep it clean the way you’ll need to. Besides, there is no drain in the bottom of your pool, and all concrete fish ponds need to have bottom drains in order to drain away the small debris.

On the other side of the concrete argument, though, is the fact that nothing you build will be as durable as concrete, especially in warmer climates where the ground doesn’t freeze. However, if you live farther north, you can still use concrete provided that you make the walls thick enough. Take care to build your pond deep enough so that scavengers aren’t tempted to try and eat your fish. You should also take care to coat the inside of a concrete pond with a sealant so that none of the alkali from it can get into the water and kill your fish.

Concrete fish ponds can be built in all shapes and sizes, but you need to have some expertise before you attempt to pour the concrete yourself. It must be poured using some kind of reinforcement so that the walls don’t cave in before they have a chance to dry. The concrete also needs to be mixed correctly. It is a versatile material, however, that can conform to any shape you desire if you have the know-how or hire someone who knows how to make it happen.

Preparing For Your Summer Vacation – 7 Tips For Packing Essentials

Excited about your vacation destination, but in a turmoil of what to pack? We all know that feeling and if you are like me, it is usually at the last minute. There are so many things to consider these days as there are more and more rules for airline travel, in particular. Here are seven (7) tips to think about to help you decide what to take.

1. Climate has to be taken into consideration. Whether you are holidaying at the beach or in a ski resort, a bathing suit is a must as no matter the destination there is always access to a pool, spa or sauna.

2. Shorts, t-shirts and tank tops are common attire around cruise ships, beaches, amusement parks and cruise ships during the day, but do not forget to pack something for evening. Often bars, restaurants and casinos have strict rules regarding attire to be permitted to enter, especially footwear. If you are on a cruise and plan to dine in the dining room at night, you will need to have evening dress.

3. Raincoats, parkas or umbrellas are a great addition to your vacation clothing list. Most amusement parks are on huge acreage with a lot of walking between the different rides and shows. On a cruise you will want to leave the ship for sight-seeing at the various stopovers therefore a light parka or fold-up umbrella is ideal to carry with you. An umbrella or jacket with hood is a must when camping, especially when you have to use the kitchen, bathroom and washing facilities which can be some distance from your campsite.

4. Sunscreen is a must as a bad dose of sunburn can ruin your holiday and essential y on a beach or cruise ship vacation and when you are walking around an amusement park. Read the labels and make sure the SPF rating is high enough for your skin tone and do not use last year’s bottle. Sunscreen has, or should, have an expiry date on it as they do not last. Do not be fooled by a cloudy day – slap it on and you will not be sorry.

5. When on a cruise check what stops are planned along the way. A passport is required on international waters and when traveling to a foreign country. If you are traveling overseas, check whether your passport is accepted without a visa at your destinations. It would be a big disappointment to get turned down at the border!

6. Camping requires a lot of preparation, but once you have outlayed the expense for a camping holiday, you can have plenty more. Camping is one of the most down-to-earth, rewarding family experiences you can have. Before you leave, it is a good idea to erect your tent in the backyard to make sure all the pieces are accounted for. Many campgrounds are in secluded areas, so a good stock of supplies is essential.

7. A good pair of sports shoes is a must. Whatever the holiday, you never know when you will be invited to play tennis, hike up to the top of a hill to enjoy the view, or do a 24 hour tour of a city.

If you forget to bring along certain supplies or essentials you can purchase them. However, the downside to purchasing items at your destination is price. Many popular vacation destinations have inflated prices.

Take your time with preparation and if you are restricted with the amount of luggage you can take, here is a tip to make more room – roll your clothes up instead of lying flat. You will be surprised at how much more you can fit into your bag.

The Easy Way to Make Money From Foreclosures

The recession has hit everyone hard. People are cutting back, many are losing their jobs and in particular, families are losing their homes. While many businesses are hurting, it’s actually a busy and profitable time for independent field inspectors. Foreclosures can actually mean easy money for field inspectors. Good money too. Here’s how:

A field inspector’s job is fairly easy. They often are expected to drive to a site, such as a home or construction site, fill out a couple basic forms, take a measurement or two and snap a couple photos. That’s about it. That’s why field inspections have been called “drive-by profits.” They take little time, and can make you good money.

As an independent field inspector, you can work as little or as much as you’d like. You’re the boss. You’re in charge. You can make your daily schedule work with your other jobs, commitments or whatever else you have going on. You simply have total control. Plus, there are no expensive classes or certifications required, and the supplies you need shouldn’t cost you too much. You might already have all them. In addition to a reliable car to get you to and from jobs, you’ll need a cell phone (one that you can use to check your email is ideal), computer with access to the internet, tape measure, clipboard and a basic digital camera. A simple point-and-shoot will do. You just need something that can take clear, bright photos.

So how can you make money from foreclosures? The recent housing crisis has made for a lot of business in the area of delinquency inspections at homes where the homeowners are behind in their payments. As a field inspector, you might be asked to visit a home where the homeowner is still there. You simply ask a couple questions, such as when they plan to make a payment, and then take down any current contact information. If the delinquent homeowner isn’t home, you’ll often just simply leave a door hanger behind that asks them to contact the lender as soon as possible. Simple drive-by inspections pay around $10 a visit, which doesn’t sound like much, but you can actually do several in an hour. That’s just one of the many perks of being an independent field inspector-the jobs often take so little time, you can do multiple jobs in an hour.

In addition to these tasks, you might be asked to survey the general condition of the property. This could include taking a few photos and measurements. Some field inspectors will even do property preservation, such as boarding up broken windows, cutting the grass, changing locks and draining a backyard pool. These more-involved delinquency inspections pay from $40 to $100 per inspection.

There’s another way to make good money with delinquent homes. Real estate investors are always looking for “troubled” properties. If you can let them know about such a property, they often pay you a finder’s fee.

The recession is hurting everyone, but it can actually mean a lot of business for independent field inspectors. There simply are a lot of field inspector jobs out there for people interested in delinquency inspections. The jobs take very little time, it’s possible to do several in an hour and you can make nice money doing them.

You can use the same types of plants that you have used around the rest of your house to carry the theme into your backyard.

That way you can create balance and style with your backyard and your house. This can really make the connection from your house to your pool more seamless and harmonious. Choice of deck materials can be pressure treated wood, cedar wood, to a vast array of man made materials. Make sure you properly waterproof your deck with the correct coatings if you use natural wood products.

These are just a few of many ideas to do when considering landscaping your backyard. Create a backyard oasis to enjoy this years swimming pool season.

Homeowners Insurance and Swimming Pools – What You Need to Know

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Owning a pool can be a fun and rewarding investment but pools are considered “attractive nuisances” to homeowners insurance companies. It’s important to understand all the costs associated with owning a pool outside of installation, maintenance, and heating. Regardless of whether or not it’s in use, your pool is always sitting there year around waiting for potential incident to occur and because of this you will find that homeowners insurance rates are significantly higher on homes with pools.

Also, with the recent increase in foreclosures nationwide many pools are becoming a huge burden on local wildlife departments who are having to deal with pools infested with all sorts of various animals and insects. Homeowners insurance companies have taken note of this and this to may lead to higher premiums going forward as well.

There are many factors that will affect your homeowners insurance premiums when you own a pool and they include:

o Where You Live – Areas in the Southern US tend to pay lower premiums for pools because a pool in the warmer climates will tend to be better maintained and serviced all year long. The farther north you go the more homeowners insurance companies will penalize you for owning a pool because they may view it as unjustified to do the colder climate and that the frozen ground from winter weather can damage in-ground pools.

o The Piece of Land you Build it On – If your pool is built near a fault line, forests, mountains, or desert terrain, you will most likely pay a higher premium.

o Keep the Pool in the Backyard – Homeowners insurance companies view pools built in the backyard as being much safer than those in the front. Pools built in the front yard can potentially attract unwanted attention from people passing by and could lead to unauthorized use or abuse of the pool.

o How to Reduce Your Homeowners Insurance Expenses – If you choose to build a pool, have one now, or are buying a home with one, read the tips below for some common ways to lower your premiums.

o You should discuss with your homeowners insurance agents any recommendations your insurance company or local government safety offices have about building or maintaining a pool, and any local safety codes that you must follow.

o Always make sure your pool is attended at all times and that includes not swimming alone yourself.

o Installing a fence around the pool to keep unauthorized people from using it is another way to save on your premium.

Use of Closed Circuit Television Systems – At Home and at Work

According to the US Bureau of Justice Statistics, approximately 75% of all crime in the states is property crime. In 2003, there were 14 million thefts of property, and of these, 83% were home and business burglaries. There’s no reason to wait until it happens to you. While it might not make the evening news, when your home or business is burgled, safeguarding it becomes the most important issue in the world.

Originally developed to provide the ultimate in security for banks, and traditionally used by security intensive operations like casinos and airports, today closed-circuit television (directly connecting video to a recording or viewing source without being broadcast) and video surveillance systems are now inexpensive and simple enough to be used at home. Now that this powerful technology is within the reach of the average consumer, it makes an effective part of any home security system, as well as a small business’ everyday video surveillance.

Advances in Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) technology are turning video surveillance equipment into the most valuable loss prevention, safety/security tool available today for both commercial and residential applications.

The use of surveillance camera systems can alert you before threatening situations worsen, as well as provide you with an important record of events. Monitoring your store or business can be invaluable, in identifying and apprehending thieves and vandals. The prevention or resolution of just one crime would be enough to pay for video surveillance system equipment many times over.

Retailers use CCTV video surveillance systems to monitor for shoplifters and dishonest employees, compile recorded evidence against bogus accident claims and monitor merchandising displays in the stores. Manufacturers, governments, hospitals and universities use video surveillance equipment to identify visitors and employees, monitor hazardous work areas, thwart theft and ensure the security of their premises and parking facilities.

In addition, if you have infants or young children at home, infrared cameras built into wireless baby monitors will help you keep a vigilant eye on them while you’re in another part of your home, night and day. And while you’re away from home, nanny cam video surveillance equipment, wireless hidden cameras and security DVR’s can provide you with the peace of mind that your baby sitters are taking good care of your precious little ones.

Business surveillance systems, home security cameras and hidden cameras can vary in appearance and function. But most all video surveillance camera systems are primarily meant to deter, or detect illegal activity, as well as serve to ensure the physical safety of loved ones. Some popular applications for home or office surveillance systems are:

Store/Business Surveillance – Theft Prevention/Curtailment

Door Entrance Monitoring/Video Intercoms

Recording Home Parties

Baby/Child Monitoring

Looking in on Baby Sitter

Monitoring Backyard Pool

Keeping Watch Over a Bedridden Loved One

Steps For Pool Maintenance

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The pool at your backyard might be your pride and the cause of envy of your neighbors. However, to keep maintaining your pride and the heath of your family members it is important that steps for pool maintenance be strictly followed. Though the pool needs to be cleaned and taken care of throughout the year, there are time intervals for certain steps to be followed:

Once a week:

To free the pool water of combined chlorine compounds, shock treatment needs to be provided. You can get these shock treatment packages quite easily in one of the local pool shops. The algal contaminants in the pool need to be controlled, for which, the pool needs a dose of algaecide once each week. This can be done the nest morning after the shock treatment has been done.

Small metal particles can often be found on the surface of pool water and it can surpass the filtration system. You can however, get rid of them by adding a dose of ‘Metal Out’ in the pool water each week. This forms a very essential part of your pool maintenance. The cloudy water problems can easily be taken care of by putting in a clarifier dose in the pool water. Even particles that cannot be caught with the help of filters will get discarded in the process.

Twice a week:

The pH level of the water needs to be checked twice a week. The pH level needs to be slightly alkaline and thus maintaining pH of around 7.2 to 7.6 is required. At this level the chlorine is most effective and suitable for the skin.

To destroy algal and bacterial forms, sanitizing the pool is very important, and it is also is an essential part of pool maintenance. To get rid of algae and bacterial forms, you can add chlorine to the water. The skimmer basket also needs to be checked and made free of debris to provide you with fresh and clean water.

Monthly:

The calcium hardness in water needs to be checked on a monthly basis. Too low amount of calcium can get the water corrosive while, too much it can result in scale formation. Thus keeping a check of the calcium hardness is essential.

Alkalinity of 80-120 should be maintained to prevent sudden changing of the pH level of pool water. This can be done by addition of basking soda, if so required. Following these steps of pool maintenance will make sure that your pool looks inviting with its crystal clear water and at the same time is absolutely healthy.
